The World Society of Paediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus (WSPOS) is a global community and charity dedicated to advancing the care of children’s vision around the world. With over 4,000 members from more than half the countries of the World, WSPOS has been bringing together leading experts in paediatric ophthalmology and strabismus since its inception in 2009. Guided by the motto “Expertise Resides All Over The World”, this collaborative community has made a difference for children with eye problems and adults with strabismus worldwide.

At the heart of WSPOS is a spirit of collaboration, education, equity and service. The society works to foster connections between paediatric ophthalmologists across borders and specialties through its World Congresses, International Webinars, Global Consensus Statements, and an online community. WSPOS also aims to support research and share best practices to improve clinical care and advocacy for children’s vision needs – working diligently to eliminate preventable vision loss in pediatric patients while simultaneously advancing help for adults with strabismus.

The flagship World Congress of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus (WCPOS) meets regularly every few years in major cities worldwide. The next WCPOS, i.e., WSPOS V will be held in 2024 in the vibrant, multi-cultural city of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. With the timely theme of “Re-Connecting the World,” WCPOS V 2024 promises to be the largest gathering of pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus specialists yet.

The exceptional global faculty boasts global experts who will lead sessions on groundbreaking research before it appears anywhere else and innovative approaches in areas like pediatric cataracts, retinopathy of prematurity, pediatric glaucoma, and more. Members will learn new techniques hands-on from esteemed experts, gain global perspectives, reconnect with worldwide colleagues, and help shape the future of pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus care. Attendees will enjoy opportunities for collaborative learning, networking, and experiencing Malaysian culture. Whether English is your first language or not, you will be seen and heard.

As WSPOS looks ahead, its commitment remains to foster global connections, drive innovation, deliver the best possible eye care to children & adults with strabismus everywhere, and eliminate preventable vision loss – creating a brighter tomorrow.
